A measure in Tennessee to honor T.J. of Brothers Osborne, who recently came out as gay, has been blocked by Republicans in the Tennessee's House of Representatives. The decision started a flurry of online chatter.
The duo publicly reached out to the Rep. Jeremy Faison of the House Republican Caucus, who has a history of supporting anti-LGBTQ legislation. Faison said that there were “some concerns.”
Brothers Osborne posted this on Twitter: “We’ve lived in this state for over half of our lives. Jeremy Faison honored Ben Shapiro who doesn’t even live here. Jeremy, let’s have lunch one day. On us. Would really like to know more about you as a person.”
A few hours later, Faison tweeted back: “We'll message you directly.”
Kacey Musgraves was among those who showed her support. She tweeted: “Massively disappointed in TN House Republicans for blocking my friend @TJOsborne for being honored because HE’S GAY!?”
The symbolic gesture to honor T.J. passed the Senate 30-0, but was ultimately turned down by the Tennessee state legislature.
