King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard scores its first career entry on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the band’s guest appearance on Justice’s “Flower in a Hurricane,” which also features Tame Impala and SZA.
Released Oct. 15 via Take-Two Interactive Software/Atlantic/Because/Virgin, the song debuts at No. 62 on the Oct. 31-dated chart with 4.6 million U.S. official streams, 1 million in radio airplay audience impressions and 1,000 sold in the U.S. in the Oct. 16-22 tracking week, according to Luminate.
“Flower in a Hurricane” is the ninth release so far from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the video game’s 34-song soundtrack, due Nov. 19. The song, which soundtracks the entirety of the game’s launch trailer (unlike other previews that used several songs), arrived alongside the news that Justice will compose the game’s score.
It’s the third song from the soundtrack to reach the Hot 100, following Morgan Wallen’s “Last Thing You Need” (No. 9 peak) and Travis Scott’s “Rhyno” (No. 84), both of which debuted on the Oct. 3-dated chart. Rockstar Games and Atlantic Records have also released songs from the set by Cardi B, Fuerza Regida and Rauw Alejandro, among others.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, which formed in Melbourne in 2010, is known for its prolific output and genre-hopping style. The band has released 28 studio albums, exploring everything from psychedelic rock, prog rock and heavy metal to jazz fusion, techno and electronic. It released five albums in 2022 alone.
The group’s latest album, August’s Alien Metal, is its furthest venture yet into dance music. The band swapped guitars for a homemade Eurorack modular synth, nicknamed “Nathan,” that all six members play at once. “There are certain parallels with a lot of the heavy metal stuff we’ve done to techno, and to some of the more krautrock-ish, hypnotic, longer stuff that we’ve done,” the band’s Stu Mackenzie told Billboard in August. “Maybe there is a thread with King Gizz and dance music that isn’t so far away.”
Before reaching the Hot 100, the act charted six albums on the Billboard 200: Flying Microtonal Banana (No. 170 peak in 2017); Murder of the Universe (No. 106, 2017); Infest the Rats’ Nest (No. 64, 2019); PetroDragonic Apocalypse (No. 85, 2023); Flight b741 (No. 118, 2024); and Phantom Island (No. 85, 2025). The band has found particular success on Billboard’s album sales charts. It has logged 25 titles on Top Album Sales, five of which reached the top 10, and 21 on Vinyl Albums, including 12 top 10s and four No. 1s.
“Flower in a Hurricane” also earns Justice its second Hot 100 entry, following the duo’s guest appearance on The Weeknd’s “Wake Me Up” (No. 45 peak, 2025). Tame Impala adds its fourth, following “Dracula” (No. 5 peak), “Loser” (No. 18) and “My Old Ways” (No. 56), all in 2025-26. SZA tallies her 62nd.
Justice and Tame Impala previously teamed up on “One Night/All Night” and “Neverender,” both from Justice’s 2024 album Hyperdrama, which spent a week at No. 1 on the Top Dance Albums chart and earned a Grammy nomination for best dance/electronic album. “Neverender” won the Grammy for best dance/electronic recording.
“Flower in a Hurricane” (whose opening riff is reminiscent of Dire Straits’ 1985 Hot 100 No. 1 “Money for Nothing”) also arrives on other Billboard charts, debuting at No. 2 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, No. 13 on Hot Alternative Songs and No. 21 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. It’s off to a quick start at alternative radio, too, opening at No. 39 on Alternative Airplay, marking King Gizzard’s first radio chart hit.
