What if your family history had a plot twist worthy of reality TV? In recent years, DNA testing has surged in popularity, fueled by genealogy shows like Finding Your Roots and celebrity revelations, such as Justin Bieber discovering a distant family connection to Avril Lavigne and Lance Bass learning that Britney Spears is his sixth cousin. Add to that the countless TikToks featuring people uncovering jaw-dropping truths about their genetic makeup, and it’s easy to see why you might have a serious case of FOMO for this pop-culture craze.

Difference Between AncestryDNA and an Ancestry Membership
AncestryDNA helps you explore your genetic heritage through ethnicity estimates, DNA matches and potential ancestral migration paths. It offers insights into where your ancestors may have lived and helps you connect with relatives who share your DNA.
An Ancestry membership focuses on family history research, allowing you to build a family tree, search historical records, explore public family trees and uncover details about your ancestors’ lives through hints and interactive timelines.
Set Up Your Ancestry DNA Kit in a Few Simple Steps
After ordering a kit, customers register it online, provide a saliva sample using the included collection tube and mail it to the lab in the prepaid return package. Ancestry says results typically arrive within six weeks of the lab receiving the sample and customers receive an email when their results are ready to explore online.
Customers Can Manage Their Privacy With Ancestry
Sharing genetic information is a personal decision, but according to Ancestry’s privacy statement, customers can choose whether to participate in research, control visibility to DNA matches, download their DNA data and request deletion of test results. Customers can also request destruction of their physical saliva sample. Ancestry also states that it does not share genetic information with third-party marketers, insurers or employers.
